Have you ever known anyone attempting to gain eternal salvation by works (the deeds that they do), such as “the sinner’s prayer” or water baptism? If we stop and think about the picture that presents, isn’t it sad how God is left to the sidelines – and all or part of the work of salvation is placed in MAN’S own power? The Bible makes it plain that salvation is solely by the GRACE of God, and cannot be “earned” by our works.
Ephesians 2:8-10 (KJV)
2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:
2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Doesn’t the phrase “by grace through faith” paint a beautiful picture of salvation? At the same time, other Scriptures seem to imply that works are also necessary to bring about salvation. This confusion stems from the fact that many of those texts in the Bible are telling already saved people how to CONTINUE in their experience of salvation (NOT how to gain initial salvation)!!!
Salvation is an ongoing process that revolves around the Word of God as both SEED and FOOD that produces FAITH by His glorious grace! It is our prayer that you are able to become better acquainted with these truths, and to DELIGHT in them with us!
