“Oh How I Love Jesus” – what a wonderful song! Our sing-along-choir have that love for Jesus down in their hearts as they put their all into singing for Him.
“Oh How I Love Jesus” has been around for over a hundred years now. This classic children’s hymn has a two-part history of sorts. First, the chorus was taken from an old folk melody and its actual author is unknown. Second, Frederick Whitfield is the author of the verses under the original title for the song, “There is a Name, I Love to Hear”. He wrote the song at the age of twenty-six shortly after he entered the ministry. Today, we do not know what inspired Whitfield to write the addition to the chorus. We only know he left behind nine verses telling of his love and experience with the Savior. Now, it is hard to imagine the chorus without the beloved first lines that starts right in with: There is a name I love to hear, I love to sing its worth. It sounds like music to my ears the sweetest name on earth. It moves flawlessly into the familiar chorus of “Oh how I love Jesus!”
