The Wonder of Water
Drip… drop… drip… drop!
Where would we be without water? It is the very basis of life! We often think of water when we need to quench our thirst, “gulp….ahhh!”, feel like taking a refreshing dip (splash!), or are in need of a cleansing bath (scrub a dub dub!). How often do we give thought to the many other ways our lives, and the world around us, depend on H20?
Water flows through and is a major percentage of every living creature on Earth. Moving up, up, up from a plant’s roots to its leaves, sap (98% water) defies gravity — even in the world’s tallest trees. And did you know that water acts as a shock absorber for the brain by helping to form a fluid which cushions the brain and spinal cord, protecting them from injury? What a headache we’d have without water!
The most powerful effects of water are not limited to just living things. Massive canyons have been carved by countless gallons of river waters. The flow of water is harnessed to produce electricity for many millions of people. Water is even used to produce cooling for the computer systems that make the Internet possible. So, yes, reading this on your device right now is in part thanks to water!
Though one drop of water may not have much of an effect on its own, when thousands and millions of drops join together, they can become a very powerful force!
Let’s dip a little deeper and discover more about what makes water so wonderful!
