After a century of songwriters and preachers proclaiming that there are literal mansions in Heaven, many people accept it as a fact. They do not usually question the words, “I’ve got a mansion just over the hilltop,” as sung in a popular song, or as spoken by someone who has attended a Bible seminary. In the face of the struggles and hardships of life, many people find comfort or reassurance in the thought of owning the mansion they’ve always dreamed of. The thought of a mansion right next to Jesus definitely appeals to the flesh!
John 14:2 (KJV) 14:2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
As an isolated Bible verse, John 14:2 certainly SEEMS to leave the impression that there are mansions or large dwelling places in heaven. But what if we lay aside any preconceived ideas and notions we might have heard, and turn to the rest of the Bible?
For example, did you know that the Greek word translated “mansion” in John 14:2 is translated something completely different in another verse in the same chapter?
And what does the “Father’s house” really mean, Biblically speaking? The Bible does not support man’s common theory that it refers to eternal Heaven! You might be surprised to find out what a careful study of the Bible actually reveals!

I never understood that since none of it made much sense.
I thought it meant the place in our spirits where the Holy Ghost lives in us, and Jesus came to prepare us.
