The Lion Sleeps Tonight – 24K Gold Music Shows
Our modern day version of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” takes it’s roots from South Africa. The earliest versions of the song have been handed down from generation to generation. Solomon Linda took the song, “Mbube” which means lion, and recorded his version in 1939. This South African release was highly successful as over time the record sold over one hundred thousand copies. It made it’s way to the US and revisions soon followed, most notably the translation and addition of English words. Recorded and released by many, it is the Tokens version that is the most successful release from 1961 which reached number one on Billboard’s Hot 100. The song went from beloved classic to super stardom when Disney included it’s version in the 1994 hit movie, The Lion King.
Please join us with this video clip as the 24K Gold Music Shows’ entire team come together for our exciting cover version of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”.
