24K Gold Music Show’s Lady Legend set was a fan favorite for sure! Artists were highlighted for their special contributions to the world of oldies music.
In this video Tammy pays tribute to Anne Murray. Anne began her career as a high school gym teacher but her deep love for music took her in another direction. “Snowbird” was a song of firsts for Anne. Released in 1969, it was the song that first launched her long and successful career. It was her first hit in the US. and it was also the first song by a Canadian to receive a gold record. After “Snowbird” Anne went on to win many musical awards in both the US and Canada, including four Grammy Awards.
Jeanine takes the lead on Patsy Cline’s “Sweet Dreams”. Patsy recorded “Sweet Dreams” on February 5, 1963 just one month before her death in a plane crash on March 5th. It was a tragic set of circumstances, as Patsy had performed in concert with Tex Ritter and Jerry Lee Lewis just days before. While together they decided to add a benefit concert to their schedule for the wife and family of a disc jockey that had died in an auto accident. This benefit concert was Patsy’s last live performance as her plane crashed on it’s return to her Nashville home. “Sweet Dreams” was released soon afterwards and has become as iconic as Patsy herself.
Cheryl takes the lead on Martina McBride’s “Broken Wing” which was released in 1997. It was on Billboard’s Hot Country Hits chart for 25 weeks and reached the number one position in January 1998. The emotion packed song tells of a woman’s perseverance while being opposed by an oppressive husband. Martina often sings of women in emotional circumstances and has been very active in celebrity charity events.
Lauren and her mother, Tammy, finish out this clip with a tribute to The Judds and “Love Can Build A Bridge”. The song was co-written by Naomi Judd at the time when she was chronically ill and had announced the end of country music’s most famous mother daughter act of all time. The Judds, Naomi and Wynonna, had 15 number one hits, won 5 Grammy Awards and numerous other awards in their career together. “Love Can Build A Bridge” was released in 1991 and won the Grammy Award for Song Of The Year in 1992.
