In the Ghetto – Fool Such As I – Never Fall In Love Again – 24K Gold Music Shows
24K Gold Music Shows performs a three song Elvis Tribute Set featuring legendary songs from the 50’s and 60’s.
“In The Ghetto” was recorded and released by Elvis in 1969. The song was written by singer/songwriter Mac Davis. Mac says that he took inspiration for the song from his own childhood friend, a black boy that grew up in poor circumstances. Mac also tells that the original tittle slated for the song was “The Vicious Circle” but he could not rhyme words with circle. The term ghetto was just beginning to be used and it seem to fit the story he wanted to tell with the lyrics. Elvis and Col. Parker disagreed on Elvis’ decision to record this song but it is a good thing that Elvis continued with his efforts as we will forever have “In The Ghetto” as deep and poignant words of the harsh realities life can bring.
“Fool Such As I” was written by Bill Trader and originally released in 1952 by Hank Snow. At the height of his career, each and every song Elvis released was bound for success, so his singles were referred to as “double A side releases”. Elvis recorded and released “Fool Such As I” while on leave from active duty in the US Army. It was the supposed B side release, but reached number two on the charts and outperformed “I Need You Love Tonight” which only climbed to four.
“Never Fall In Love Again” was written by singer/songwriter Lonnie Donegan. He released the song as a single in 1962. Later he pitched the song to Tom Jones who recorded it and released it in 1967. Both of these releases were only marginally successful. Tom Jones re-recorded the song and released it again in 1969, and this was its most successful release, as it rose to number six on the charts. Elvis covered “Never Fall In Love Again” on his number one album “From Elvis Presley Boulevard, Memphis Tennessee” in 1976. 24K Gold Music Shows takes a little of Tom Jones’ version and a lot of Elvis’ version and performs the emotionally powerful love ballad, “Never Fall In Love Again”.
