Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen – Come Softly To Me – Yakety Yak – 24K Gold Music Shows
24K Gold Music Shows takes us back and performs three popular song from the 50’s and 60’s.
First up is the 1961 pop hit, “Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen”. Neil Sedaka released the song and he also wrote the tune. The “Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen” lyrics were written by Howard Greenfield as he chronicles the childhood days of a young guy and the girl next door. It reached #6 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and has remained a fan favorite all through the years.
Next up is our cover version of The Fleetwoods, “Come Softy To Me”. The Fleetwoods were a very popular trio, featuring Gary Troxel along with childhood friends Gretchen Christopher and Barbara Ellis. Gretchen Christopher wrote this beautiful ballad, that would become The Fleetwoods first number one hit, in 1959. The group enjoyed the success of many of their recordings as they had a total of 12 charted hit songs, most notably their second number one hit, Mr. Blue. Their soft, easy sound has kept their recordings on the top of the oldies favorite’s lists for many years.
The final number for this video clip is the humorous, doo-wop style song “Yakety Yak”, sung by The Coasters, one of the biggest acts of the rock and roll era. The Coasters’ “Yakety Yak” topped the charts in 1958. Our 24K Gold Music Show Team features the girls on this number and they are joined by someone that seems to have a long list of chores!
